Prohibtion against holding corporate events at non-industry locations and occasional gifts On December 13, 2007 Lif’s members decided to tighten the ethical rules.
The changes introduce a prohibition against holding all forms of events for healthcare personnel at non-industry locations.
A non-industry location may relate to a location or the town in which an event is held. A couple of examples: - Holding events in Cannes during the film festival is prohibited. - In Denmark, holding events in Parken in conjunction for example with an international match, Premier League match, concert etc. is prohibited. It is not possible to provide general guidance on how or when events may not be held since a specific assessment by NMI (The Danish Board of Drug Advertising) (after April 1, 2008 the Board for Self-Regulation in the Pharmaceutical Sector, NSL) needs to be taken in each individual case. At the same time a prohibition is introduced against companies that give occasional gifts to doctors and nurses, etc. in connection with red-letter days as birthdays and promotions. The prohibition includes all kinds of gifts, including also wine gifts, flowers or the like. The prohibition for Lif’s members against holding any kind of event at non-industry locations and the prohibition against occasional gifts to healthcare personnel took effect as from January 1, 2008. For the moment the prohibition are binding on Lif’s member companies only, and Lif has asked the Danish Board of Drug Advertising, NMI (after April 1, 2008 the Board for Self-Regulation in the Pharmaceutical Sector, NSL) to supervise that Lif’s member companies comply with these prohibitions.
